5 Reasons Why FFKM is Used Within Harsh Environments
FFKM, or perfluoroelastomers, are a group of elastomers that are used across a wide range of industries.
TRP offers ultra-low-temperature FFKM materials suitable for a range of applications.
Our ultra-low-temperature perfluoroelastomer O-ring material, LT-45 FFKM, provides the lowest possible temperature range for sealing, even in extreme temperatures as low as -45 °C, whilst still providing excellent resistance to aggressive chemical environments.
Seals will typically fail in low temperatures when the elastomer becomes hard and resists deformation to pressure, and leak paths can arise. TRPlast® LT-45 FFKM is designed for use in oil and gas and chemical processing equipment operating in cold climates at below freezing temperatures, offering a ‘one material fits all solution’.
This material also has active service in the extreme environment of space, being used for aerospace seals in SmallSats and CubeSats. Our FFKM materials are designed to reduce maintenance costs and equipment downtime by significantly improving the lifespan and performance of pumps, valves, and couplings.
Ultra-low temperature LT-45 FFKM
A black FFKM material that provides outstanding low-temperature properties, with an extended FFKM temperature range from -45°C (-49°F) up to +240°C (+464°F). It has similar chemical resistance to that of PTFE but with elastomeric properties comparable to standard fluorocarbon rubbers.
Along with all our TRPlast® range, this grade is designed for use in a wide range of applications where other polymers are not suitable.
The benefits of our low-temperature seals include:
Our low-temperature O-rings are capable of withstanding temperatures as low as -45°C
TRP’s low-temperature FFKM can withstand exposure to many harsh substances.
Our low-temperature rubber can also withstand extremely high temperatures.
